Hand polishing may be a waning art (get it wrong and you can destroy the entire frame, so it’s not trivial work), but it is one of the most important of RIGARDS’s techniques. Being a keratin-based material, horn can be polished to varying degrees, and to achieve this there is no substitute for the trained hands and eyes of skilled craftsmen. While it can be easy to buff frames to a high shine (as long as you have a polishing wheel and wax), there are no shortcuts with matte polishing. The main ingredient of matte finish hand polishing is, literally, elbow grease. Everything is done laboriously and patiently by hand, producing some of the most sublime finishes for natural horn frames.
